Beauty on the Inside

Beauty on the Inside

When you first begin to read a “beauty article,” you probably think you’re going to get some great make-up or hair tips.  And, PLEASE, if anyone wants to give me some make-up tips, I’ll gladly take them.  But today, I want to challenge you to think about beauty in a different way.

I’m going to share with you some of the best beauty advice I was ever given. It came from good old MOM ? … ”Beauty is as beauty does!”

Ok, I know what you’re thinking.  What does that mean? My mom would often direct this comment to me when I wasn’t being very nice.  Think about the sweetest person you know, aren’t they beautiful to you?  This is because true beauty starts from the inside.

Well let’s get started on our “insides”.  Here are some tips I’ve acquired from my life in the exercise world, along with more details on where my mother was coming from with her advice.

Drink Your Water!

Dehydration can cause circles under your eyes, breakouts and an over-all feeling of being hungry when you are actually just thirsty.  The Mayo clinic recommends about 15.5 cups of water a day for men and 11.5 cups of water a day for women.

Move Your Body Daily

I don’t care if you only have 10 minutes, move for those 10 minutes. Movement can be anything you feel like doing: walking, yoga, dancing, weight training, tai chi.  Any movement will help keep your energy up throughout your day. Energy begets energy.

Come From Your Heart

Now I’m going to elaborate on what exactly my mother meant … “Come from your heart” with all of your actions.  My favorite way to set myself up for this is with an “attitude of gratitude.” If you can take a few minutes out of your daily life to write down (or even just go through in your head) your gratitude list, it’s amazing how your mood shifts. Immediately you will feel more uplifted, happy, and smiling on the outside.  And what’s more beautiful than a smile?? ?

To recap, any beauty routine really does start from the inside… Drink your water daily for optimal cellular function.  Get your body moving with daily exercise.  Most importantly, keep your spirits up with your attitude of gratitude!
